We are the Growth Mindset Club, and it is our mission that we spread positivity into our community. We also try to influence people to have a habit of knowing that they can do it, and everything is possible. We make posters about The Power of Yet, and how you may not be able to reach your goals… YET. We also do fundraisers like PJ Day at our school to help us accomplish spreading positivity and kindness.

One of our many missions is to have a Growth Mindset in tough situations — that when you make mistakes you are able to learn from them rather than quitting. By knowing you can do it and learning from the past, you are able to become successful in many ways.

We also try to have everybody exercise Growth Mindset daily. For example, we sometimes ask, “What have you done this week to practice Growth Mindset?” It can be done by having dreams and setting goals to making the dreams come true, looking at mistakes as opportunities to get better. It can mean showing kindness and helping at home to do the smallest things like taking out the garbage or helping with dinner. Growth Mindset means never giving up! Our mission is to spread the message of empowerment to do better, be our best even when faced with challenges… we don’t give up! We know we are not perfect, but we strive to be the best we can be and we strive to impact our community. We do not just think about Growth Mindset, we ACT with Growth Mindset, and we are determined to influence our community!

So What is Growth Mindset?

Growth Mindset is about staying positive and interacting with other people to keep them positive. It is about never giving up on what you want, being resilient, optimistic and viewing mistakes as opportunities to be even better. You can strive for achievements and awards by setting goals and working towards them. Encouraging you to strive for what you want, and basically encouraging you to be a better person, that is what we strive to do. We hope this will have an impact on everyone who experiences it.

Grace Churovia and Victoria Allison asked the teachers of Dutch Ridge Elementary for examples of students who show a Growth Mindset. We chose Micah Kuntz and Annabella Zelina. They are both in third grade.

Micah Kuntz – Works hard in class, is kind to teachers and classmates, and always goes the extra mile.

Annabella Zelina – Always perseveres in her work even when learning difficult topics, has a positive spirit while participating in class, and is incredibly kind to teachers and classmates.

Grace Churovia also interviewed Jennifer Temple, Marketing Director of Beaver County non-profit Bags & Blessings, as an example of a Growth Mindset in our community.

What made you want to join Bags & Blessings?

She joined because she had received a bag so she thought she should give back.

What is one piece of advice we should remember during these times?

Even though things aren’t normal, there are still positive things to look at.

What is one goal of Growth Mindset that you try to achieve each day?

She tries to wake up and know that she is blessed.

How do you affect other people around you when you show kindness?

When she is positive, she helps other people stay positive and happy. Also, when she is kind it lets people know that someone cares about them.

When something tough happens in life, how do you stay uplifted?

She tries to look at the positive things in life, and know that some things are out of your control.
