Volunteering is the practice of people working on behalf of others without being motivated by financial or material gain. Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity, intended to promote good and improve human quality of life. People also volunteer to gain skills without requiring an employer’s financial investment.

Almost 800,000 Americans call themselves volunteer firefighters. They are our domestic defenders, protecting the homeland from within, just as our military protects us from external attack. This is the most challenging and essential community service provided by volunteers and the most dangerous.

If you are interested in helping protect your community, and would like to be part of a team steeped in over 180 years of tradition, we encourage you to join us. We meet every Monday of the month at our station on Market Street, we challenge you to volunteer and to help make a difference.
