The Rotary Club of Beaver is a dynamic organization dedicated to serving the local community through various charitable initiatives and community service projects. With a rich history dating back to its founding 77 years ago, the Beaver Club has consistently demonstrated a commitment to Rotary International’s core values of service, fellowship, diversity, integrity, and leadership.
In an effort to address the pressing issue of child welfare locally, The Rotary Club of Beaver created the Children’s Bed Program. This program aims to provide children from low-income families with a basic necessity often taken for granted – a bed of their own. In 2024 the Club will reach the milestone of 500 beds donated through the program spearheaded by Hank Kretchmar.
Statistics reveal that a significant number of children in Beaver County may lack a proper bed to sleep in, which can negatively impact their physical and emotional well-being. With 10.2% of the county’s residents living under the poverty line according to the 2023 census, many children in our area may live without a comfortable and secure place to rest. The lack of a bed can lead children to struggle with sleep deprivation, affecting their ability to concentrate in school and engage in daily activities.
The Children’s Bed Program collaborates with AK Nahas to source and distribute beds to families in need. Through the club’s members and their fundraising efforts, the program hopes to ensure that no child goes without a bed to sleep in. Beyond the provision of physical beds, the proper bedding, and a pillow, the program also offers a list of local resources to families including food and clothing pick up locations and health and wellness services for those who qualify.
